Não podemos afirmar que os materialistas vêm vindo…
Estão nos tempos modernos, por toda parte, tentando inconscientemente apagar a luz do espírito.
Assestam telescópios na direção das galáxias e supõem resolver os enigmas do Universo pelas acanhadas impressões dos cinco sentidos da esfera física.
Devotam-se aos mais altos estudos da Psicologia transcendente e atestam que o homem não passa de símio complexo, sem maiores possibilidades de evolução.
Dizem que estamos longe de equacionar os problemas do destino e do ser, e estabelecem padrões para a genética humana, tomando por alicerce o comportamento de drosófilas e de ratos nas atividades reprodutivas.
Asseveram que é preciso plasmar elites de condutores e dirigem-se à mocidade acadêmica subtraindo-lhe as noções da alma, à feição de sorridentes carrascos da responsabilidade moral.
Destacam o imperativo da solidariedade e preconizam a sumária eliminação dos que nasçam doentes ou incapazes.
Proclamam-se campeões da liberdade e desprezam quem lhes não aceite o figurino mental.
Recomendam a investigação das questões do espírito e injuriam as inteligências sinceras e desassombradas que a elas se afeiçoem.
Aconselham o respeito às religiões e, em vez de ajudá-las no apostolado de amor pela extinção do sofrimento, solapam-lhes a existência, a golpes de sarcasmo sutil.
Claro que não nos reportamos aos pesquisadores respeitáveis, porque a Ciência – matriz do progresso – será sempre, no mundo, a interrogação vestida de luz, entesourando experiências, diante da verdade.
Referimo-nos aos epicuristas de todas as épocas, sejam eles autores de fulgurantes pensamentos destrutivos, em alentados livros sobre a Natureza, ou meros conversadores de salão, interessados nas sensações inferiores, a detrimento da sublimação íntima.
Desde as primeiras horas de nossa formação doutrinária, os mensageiros do Cristo explicaram que o Espiritismo contribuirá no aperfeiçoamento da Terra, anulando o materialismo, por ensinar aos homens a dignificação do futuro, mantendo-os livres de seitas e cores, castas e privilégios.
Temos, assim, a tarefa de conduzir para a frente a bandeira da imortalidade, com o trabalho incessante que lhe é consequente, mas, para atingirmos a meta, é imperioso se disponha cada um de nós a viver em si mesmo os princípios que prega, com a obrigação de servir e com o dever de estudar.

We cannot say that materialists have been coming…
They are in modern times, everywhere, unconsciously trying to extinguish the light of the spirit.
They point telescopes in the direction of the galaxies and suppose to solve the enigmas of the Universe through the shy impressions of the five senses of the physical sphere.
They devote themselves to the highest studies of transcendent psychology and attest that man is nothing more than a complex ape, without greater possibilities of evolution.
They say that we are far from equating the problems of destiny and being, and they set standards for human genetics, taking the behavior of drosophila and rats in reproductive activities as a foundation.
They assert that it is necessary to form elites of conductors and address themselves to academic youth, subtracting from them the notions of the soul, in the guise of smiling executioners of moral responsibility.
They emphasize the imperative of solidarity and advocate the summary elimination of those born sick or incapable.
They proclaim themselves champions of freedom and despise anyone who does not accept their mental costume.
They recommend the investigation of questions of the spirit and they injure the sincere and fearless intelligences that are attached to them.
They advise respect for religions and, instead of helping them in the apostolate of love for the extinction of suffering, they undermine their existence with subtle sarcasm.
Of course, we do not report to the reputable researchers, because Science – the matrix of progress – will always be, in the world, the question dressed in light, hoarding experiences, in the face of the truth.
We refer to the Epicureans of all ages, whether they are authors of blazing destructive thoughts, in heartening books on Nature, or mere salon talkers, interested in inferior sensations, to the detriment of intimate sublimation.
From the first hours of our doctrinal formation, the messengers of Christ explained that Spiritism will contribute to the improvement of the Earth, annulling materialism, by teaching men to dignify the future, keeping them free from sects and colors, castes and privileges.
Thus, we have the task of carrying forward the flag of immortality, with the incessant work that follows from it, but, in order to reach the goal, it is imperative that each one of us be willing to live in himself the principles he preaches, with the obligation to serve and with the duty to study.
