Senhor Jesus,
Sobre a Terra de agora, ansiosa e agitada,
Que a ciência domina,
Muitas ideias novas pela estrada
Sonegam-te, no mundo, a Presença Divina…
O homem superculto,
Nas invenções geniais e nos feitos de vulto,
Experimenta, experimenta…
Entretanto, Senhor, por mais se lhe permite
Revelações dos céus, sem pausa e sem limite,
Ei-lo na indagação
Em que não se contenta…
Projetando satélites no Espaço
E entesourando láureas da cultura
Nem por isso largou-se
Do tédio, do azedume, do cansaço
De alma triste e insegura…
Toda a Terra é um arsenal de máquinas potentes…
Sondas, computadores…
Investiga-se os mundos exteriores,
Conclama-se ao progresso
Todos os continentes…
Mas a guerra campeia,
O cérebro sem fé como que se incendeia
E a violência se espalha mundo afora…
É por isso, Jesus, que te pedimos:
Fica conosco, em nossos vales,
Enquanto tantos gênios
Pairam em altos cimos,
Brilhando sem saber onde os bens e onde os males!…
Conserva-nos a fé por luz acesa
E ajuda-nos a ver na terrestre grandeza
Com a benção de amor em que nos guardas.
As longas retaguardas
Dos irmãos despojados de esperança,
A fim de socorrê-los em teu nome…
Atenua, Senhor, a mágoa dessas vidas
Que a tristeza consome
Na dor que não descansa.
Ergue de novo, os corações caídos
Em desesperação
A buscarem na cinza os ausentes queridos
Que a morte lhes furtou em processo violento,
Ajuda-nos a ver o sofrimento
Que o radar não percebe e o motor não consola…
Substitui, Jesus, pleno apoio da escola
A sombra do presídio que segrega
Os irmãos que a revolta inda inspira e carrega
Para os despenhadeiros da existência…
Fica conosco, Mestre, e faze-nos prover
De auxílio e reconforto,
O sentimento amargo e semimorto
Da multidão sem paz, a chorar e a sofrer…
Na fé que o teu amparo nos descerra
Deixa-nos atingir o coração da Terra!…
Faze que o Sol da Caridade
A irradiar-te as bênçãos de alegria,
Envolva, dia a dia,
O pão que nutre o Bem de Toda a Humanidade.
Não nos deixes a sós
E ensina-nos, Senhor,
A encontrar finalmente em cada um de nós
O caminho de luz do teu reino de amor!…

Lord Jesus,

Soar high on high,
Shining without knowing where the good and where the evil!…
Keep our faith by light on
And help us to see earthly greatness
With the blessing of love in which you keep us.
