Ferir o corpo com a desculpa de conquistar a ascensão da alma é operar o suicídio indireto, pelo qual menosprezamos a Infinita Bondade que no-lo empresta, a fim de que o sol do progresso nos assinale a existência.
Atendendo às sugestões dessa ordem, copiaremos, insensatos, a decisão infeliz do lavrador que destruísse a enxada que o serve, na suposição de auxiliar ao campo, ou o impulso delituoso do operário que desorganizasse as peças da máquina que o obedece, a pretexto de ser mais útil.
O engenho físico é o templo sublime em que somos chamados à escola da redenção.
Nele possuímos a harpa da vida, em cujas cordas podemos desferir a melodia do trabalho e do sacrifício, da abnegação e do amor, preparando o próprio acesso à exaltação da imortalidade.
Por isso mesmo o cilício mais precioso ao nosso grande futuro será sempre o da própria renunciação voluntária em benefício da felicidade dos outros, aprendendo a ceder de nossas opiniões ou de nosso conforto em auxílio dos corações que nos partilham o calor do teto, os quais, muitas vezes, em provação mais árdua do que a nossa, nos reclamam entendimento e bondade ao preço de nossa dor.
Saibamos, assim, sorrir entre lágrimas, fatigar-nos no amparo aos que Deus nos confia, emudecer nossa excessiva agressividade, abraçar quem nos fere e apagar nossos próprios sonhos, a fim de que a segurança e a tranquilidade se façam junto de nós naqueles que nos comungam a experiência e somente assim nossa exaustão corpórea será compreensível e justa, porquanto de nosso cansaço terá nascido a ventura daqueles que atravessam conosco o vale da sombra terrestre à procura da luz inextinguível, que reina, soberana, na Espiritualidade Maior.

In the proving ground
Injuring the body with the excuse of conquering the ascension of the soul is to operate indirect suicide, by which we despise the Infinite Goodness that lends it to us, so that the sun of progress marks our existence.
Taking into account the suggestions of this order, we will foolishly copy the unfortunate decision of the farmer who destroyed the hoe that serves him, in the supposition of helping the field, or the criminal impulse of the worker who disorganized the parts of the machine that obeys him, under the pretext of being most useful.
Physical ingenuity is the sublime temple where we are called to the school of redemption.
In him we have the harp of life, on whose strings we can play the melody of work and sacrifice, of self-denial and love, preparing our own access to the exaltation of immortality.
That is why the hair shirt most precious to our great future will always be that of voluntary renunciation for the sake of the happiness of others, learning to yield our opinions or our comfort to the help of the hearts that share the warmth of the roof with us, which, often, in a trial more arduous than ours, they demand understanding and kindness from us at the price of our pain.
Let us, therefore, know how to smile between tears, weary ourselves in supporting those whom God entrusts to us, to mute our excessive aggression, to embrace those who hurt us and to erase our own dreams, so that security and tranquility are made with us in those who we share the experience and only in this way will our bodily exhaustion be understandable and just, because from our tiredness will be born the happiness of those who cross with us the valley of the earth’s shadow in search of the inextinguishable light, which reigns, sovereign, in the Greater Spirituality.
